Obituary for Judith Friedland

Judith Friedland
Judith G. Friedland, 76, of Coconut Creek, Florida, formerly of Liberty, NY, entered eternal rest on May 7, 2017.

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 58 years, David Friedland.
She leaves behind her two sons and their spouses: Robert and his wife Judy O’Dell-Friedland, of South Salem, NY, and Eric and his wife Deirdre Friedland, of Burlington, CT, as well as her five cherished Grandchildren: Tara Lyons and her husband Scott of Berne NY, Jake Friedland of Mahwah NJ, Marlee Friedland of Mahwah NJ, Craig Friedland of Los Angeles CA, and Lauren Friedland of Burlington, CT. Additionally, she leaves her great-grandsons who gave her much joy, Zachary and Gavin Lyons of Berne, NY.

Judy is survived by her sister with whom she remained forever close, Marilyn Cohen, and her husband Morty, of Monticello, NY. She was pre-deceased by her other sister, Barbara Beck, and husband Alfred, of Liberty NY.

Judy was born on August 17, 1940, to the late Meyer and Sarah Melnick of Swan Lake, NY.
After completing High School at the age of 16, she attended Fairleigh-Dickenson University where she obtained her degree in Dental Hygiene.
She practiced professionally as a Dental Hygienist in Monticello, NY, as well as in various school systems throughout Sullivan County, NY, until her retirement.

Judy married her husband and partner in life, David Friedland, on August 22, 1959. There was seldom a day that they spent apart from one another. After the early years of their marriage in Bloomfield, NJ, they moved their young family to Liberty, NY. David owned and operated Phil’s Market in Liberty, and after some years raising her young sons, Judy returned to her profession as a Dental Hygienist.

Judy was a very kind and caring woman, who was dedicated to her immediate family, and also to her extended family whom she cared about with all her heart: her nieces whom she thought of as daughters, Elizabeth Cohen and husband Evan, and Ericka Cohen and husband Richard. Her nephews Mitchell Cohen and wife Connie, Harry Beck and wife Michelle, Jonathan Beck and wife Lisa. Her grand-nieces and nephews, Hailey, Carly, Marci, Lindsey, Jared, Brandon, Alexander, Adam.

Judy had an uncanny ability to remember life events and dates, names and places, from years and decades in the past. She was a veritable history book of information and details that she would effortlessly recall, to the amazement of those around her.

She will be greatly missed by her family, and by the countless people who called her a friend.

The family held a private gathering in Judy’s memory.
