Obituary for Catherine Green

Catherine Green
Catherine Idolia Green was born to the late Ex-Sergeant Erasmus and the late Mrs. Christobel Green on the 17 of February, 1929 in Belize. She was their third child; her siblings are: Onesimus, Eric, William, John, Helen Green and Ella Green Tennyson.

Miss Catherine was a dedicated Nurse her entire life. In Belize and Jamaica, she served as a Registered Nurse and Midwife. She also served as a public health nurse in the Cayo District where she travelled to remote villages by horse, dorey or land rover to reach the inland areas. Occasionally, she would have individual members of her family accompany her for the experience. On the return trip home, she would bring back chickens that would be fluttering about. Nurse Catherine also worked in New York at several hospitals. She was at the Brooklyn Hospital for several years until her retirement in 1996. At this time, she was the head of the administrative department for the Pediatrics Ward at the hospital on Decalb Ave.

Nurse Green retired to her homeland, Belize, and did not go into active duty again. She did, however, assist many people in her community of Ladyville as well as friends and family members. When anyone was not well, the first person of reference was “Aunt D,” as we lovingly refer to her. The “D” was an abbreviation for Dolly as some of her family members thought she resembled a doll.

Nurse Green had no birthed children of her own but has an adopted son, Kevin Armstrong Green, and took care of her many nieces of nephews. Some of them are: Jennifer, Janice, Erica Green, Delarai Armstrong Sanchez, Laura Tennyson Lightburn, Everett Armstrong, Griffith Green; her grand niece, Anesha Green; and cousins, Bernard Braddick, Cheryl, and many others.

Never give up easily~ Aunt D was given six months to live and she lived six years; from 2011 to 2017. She displayed: Faith in God always, patience and grit. She never showed weakness. Aunt D wanted to educate everyone about the evil of cancer. She was not ashamed to show male or female her scars.
We pray that the Almighty Father welcome her home to her eternal rest and rise on the day when all things are created new. We hope to be reunited with her and our loved ones. Amen

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Bailey Memorial Gardens, where Catherine will be laid to rest.
