Obituary for Kenneth E. Merklen

Kenneth E. Merklen
Kenneth E. Merklen, 93, of Coral Springs, FL passed away on November 17, 2016. He was born in New York City and graduated from St. John's University with his Juris Doctorate. Ken worked for many years as a patent attorney before transitioning into the position of arbitrator. He also served our great nation with the U.S. Air Force as a sharpshooter during WW II.

Ken was a man of faith, a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. He had a very dry sense of humor, but was a gentle, playful man that always had a lesson to teach to his grandchildren. Family oriented, Ken's life revolved around his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. As an avid reader, he enjoyed the likes of James Patterson and Tom Clancy. In his free time, Ken loved to go hunting and fishing in upstate New York.

Survived by his wife of 48 years, Vilma; daughters, Mary-Lin (Cris) Hoyer and Lenora (Tony) Zaweski; and grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Hoyer, Katie Tomlin, and Renee Johnson, and their spouses who were close to his heart. Also left to cherish his memory are his great grandchildren, Madison, Emma, Lily, and Mason Hoyer and Luke and Caroline Johnson; and his brother, William Merklen.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Coral Springs Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M., on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton followed by burial at South Florida National Cemetery.
